    Montravel is a tiny area in the hills north of the Dordogne providing Bergerac’s finest whites. An interesting blend – sauvignon shows on the aroma, but the addition of semillon gives an extra structure with a dash of honey on the palate.

18.5 hectares of which just 2 are white
60% Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris, 40% Semillon. Rootstocks 41 B and 101.14. 20 yr-old vines on average, double guyot trained.
Limestone/clay. 80 mtrs above sea level on gentle south facing slopes. 60cm of soil above the limestone.
Grass etc allowed to grow between the rows of vines. No fertilisers. Sulphur against oidium is the only spray used. Machine-harvested, 45 hectos per hectare.
Cold soak at around 9-11°C for 20 hours. Vinified in stainless steel at 18°C. No chaptalisation. Fermentation lasts 15 days. Malo-lactics not carried out. Elevage on fine lees for 2 months then light collage by bentonite and filtration by kieselghur. Bottled once per year at the end of February.
