The first vines of Domaine Overnoy were planted in 1982 when Jean-Louis took over the family’s polyculture farm. He is now passing the baton to his 24yo son Guillaume who has converted the domaine to organic since joining in 2014, as well as reducing the production of crémant and vins sous voile for more ouillé style wines.

La cave

His inspiration naturally comes from his great-uncle Pierre Overnoy, who he visits on a regular basis, experimenting and aiming for sulphur-free winemaking even though he cheekily admits this is more difficult than it sounds.

The vineyards are planted with the five main Jura grapes and an unusual high proportion of red varieties (almost 3ha), and the family owns a stunning ancient underground cellar where the wines age in 4 to 10yo pièces bourguignonnes (228ltr) and 500ltr barriques.

After losing over 90% of his production because of frost in 2017, in order to help make ends meet Guillaume launched a small-scale brewery with two other winemakers in the region, including Géraud from Marnes Blanches. In a converted cowshed they ferment using lees from their savagnin together with the finest hops, barley and wheat to make a pilsner style beer.

CRÉMANT DU JURA 2014
80% Chardonnay, 10% Pinot Noir, 10% Poulsard (12.5% alc.)

Bottled at 5.5 bar pressure this blended rosé spent 48 months on lattes before disgorgement. This beautiful crémant would give some champagnes a run for their money. Zero dosage.

CÔTES-DU-JURA 2017
100% Pinot Noir (12.5% alc.)

Vines from 8 to 30yo on light-coloured marl and clay in the village of Cesancey 7km north of Orbagna.
