The vines for Maurin are again planted in siderolithique soil (see above). Exceptional wine made from 100% pure malbec, this has a much deeper, almost black cherry colour. Given a longer cuvaison than the Cuvée Juline, it has more structure and a different aromatic profile – slightly tobaccoey, with fruit more redolent of figs/ prunes and a touch of menthol and spice on the finish. For drinking now to 2020.

100% Malbec planted 1970 using clones. Average age of vines is now 35 years planted 5000 per hectare. Single guyot trained.

Grass left to grow between rows, ploughs very deep every 3 years. De-buds and green harvests. Vineyards treated organically – no herbs or pests (SO2 and copper sulphate). Very severe ‘eclaircissage’ in June to leave only 5 bunches per vine. Harvest 100% by hand. 35 hectos per hectare.
