Produced by the same winemaker as the Château Moutin, this comes from two hectares of 30 year old vines in the lieu dit of Rouquette. Harvested at 45hh and cuve aged it is precise, focused and clean and offers lovely varietal sauvignon fruit with that little extra backbone of structure from the semillon.

This is a very thoughtfully made white, 90% aged in cuve and the balance in two new barrels. Sulphur, which can often be the bane of Pessac whites, is kept to a minimum. A very pale gold colour, it has peach flesh on the nose, citrus fruits on the palate, and is very harmonious with a subtle stamp from the complex terroir, which leaves stony, saline notes on the finish. At its best after 5 years from vintage per François Boutemy. Very limited quantity. For drinking now to 2022.

This is made from 2.7h of superbly sited vines just below Haut-Bailly, where the top soil is  gravelly with limestone-clay beneath, and a 5.75h parcel next to Rochemorin where there is also deep gravels but a touch more clay. The vines are planted on very good rootstock and yields are lower than average for the appellation. Aged 50% in cuve and 50% in new barrels for 18 months, there is a quality to the fruit that only the best terroirs give, it is very harmonious again, nothing is out of place or exaggerated. The black fruits, blackcurrants and ripe plums have a touch of pepper, and an extra level of depth and complexity over the more solar 2009, all the time relieved by a perfect acidity. For drinking now to 2021.

Loupiac is an appellation on steep gravelly banks of the right bank of the Garonne, opposite Sauternes. This is the château’s top cuvée from 70 year old sémillon and 20 year old sauvignon. It has a rich gold colour, intense fruit on the nose and fine concentration on the palate – nuts, honey, marmalade and a touch of vanilla, with excellent relief and balance. For drinking now to 2016+.

Aged for 2.5 years in a mix of 100 year old acacia barrels (which help to preserve acidity) and oak it is protected by natural volcanic sulphur, this wine comes from minute yields of 6hh from a parcel closest to Yquem where there is a sandy topsoil and blue clay and cobalt beneath.  It has floral and spicy bread aromas and the fruit is notable for fresh quince. Unfined and unfiltered. For drinking now to 2022+.

From an excellent vintage for Sauternes, on the palate this has a sumptuously rich depth of stewed apricots, dates and figs and a little spice on the finish. Very harmonious wine with a superb play on the palate. Unfined and unfiltered. For drinking now to 2025.

The acidities and proteins in sweet wines change at different rates if subjected to pressure, and so Alain therefore dug a deep trench in his cellar, dry-lined it and buried several barrels in dry sand, deciding via the bio-dynamic calendar on the perfect day to unearth them six years later. A flor develops over the surface of the wine, exactly like a vin jaune in the Jura, and the flavours concentrate and deepen. Extraordinary wine again from a very fine vintage, nutty and spicy, with flavours of figs, dried apricots and mountain honey. Unfined and unfiltered. For drinking now to 2020+.
