This exceptional wine comes from 40-50 year old vines on the dramatically steep, terraced and walled clos of Geisberg. It has rich fruit, is densely structured but as ever bone dry, with intense, mineral flavours. For drinking now to 2024.

domaine:13 hectares (of which 1½ hectares for Geisberg) Grape: 100% Riesling – 40-50 yr old vines, massale selection on 3309 rootstock. 6000 vines per hectare. Terroir: Steep 40% walled clos, terraced to make it workable with supporting walls. Very quick draining soil comprising limestone, clay, marl with a touch of sandstone. Due south facing at 300m above sea-level. Can’t use a tractor in this vineyard. Viticulture: Acrobatic skills called for here. Everything done by hand. Debud but never carry out vendanges en vert. Allow grass to grow 1 row in 2 and furrow the other row. Uses sulphur against oidium. Manual harvest with careful trie. Yield 50 hectos per hectare Vinification: Pneumatic press. Use foudres and stainless steel cuve, both temperature controlled (between 17-23°C). Malolactics blocked. Racked once or twice after fermentation. Sterile filtered by membrane before bottling with their own equipment after 9 months. Press:
