    Grape:100% Gamay (13.5% alc.)

    This comes from 70 year old vines in a schist and granite derived soil on the southern slope of Mont Brouilly. Aged in old oak foudres, it has rich spicy fruit with a marked stony flavour on the finish. For drinking now to 2012.

    6 hectares of which 0.5 hectares produce Côte de Brouilly. 
    Grape: Gamay – 70 yr old vines, planted at 10,000 vines per hectare. Selection massale on Vialla and 420A rootstocks. Gobelet formation. 
    Terroir: Vines are on the south face of Mont Brouilly, an ancient volcano. Broken up rock comprising blue diorite, schiste and granite. No soil. 30% slope. 
    Viticulture: Impossible to plough as no soil. Selection of root-stock and clones considered key – to give small, intensely flavoured grapes. Neither debud nor carry out vendanges en vert. Use sulphur against oidium. Vines are trimmed by hand. Use table de tried to check quality of all grape bunches. Hand harvested. 50 hectos per hectare. 
    Vinification: Indigenous yeasts. Carries out classic maceration carbonique of entire grape bunches in cement cuve with 2 remontages a day. 15 days cuvaison. Pressed by pneumatic press and press wine assembled. Aged in old foudres with 2 rackings. 1 bottling at start of May. Wines unfined but filtered by kieselghur.
