In a World of Fine Wine tasting (Issue 27 July 2010) of Malbec wines from Argentina and Cahors, Gérard Basset, owner of Hotel Terravina and now winner of 2010 Best Sommelier in the World nominated Domaine La Bérangeraie's Cahors Les Quatre Chambrées de la Bérangeraie Cahors AOC 2008 the best wine.

Tim Atkin, Gérard Basset and Anthony Rose blind tasted 41 wines (21 from Cahors) and their comments on the Berangeraie Cahors are below:

Gérard Basset: Deep black-ink color, with thin purple rim. Very expressive. Floral and a lot of black fruit. Violet and jasmine. Lively and juicy, with fresh fruity character in retro. Long finish. 19.5

Tim Atkin: Bright, inky purple. Perfumed: violets and blackberries, well-integrated oak. Lush, rich, succulent fruit sweetness, mediumweight tannins. Slightly drying finish, some licorice, but lots of personality and flavor. Needs food. Three to five years. 17

Anthony Rose: Dense, youthful, inky purple; slightly vegetal, attractively floral perfume on the nose, this has a fine-boned, structured succulence of fruit and a hint of chocolate.

Very nicely balanced and concentrated, with chocolaty dark fruits, richness, and a well proportioned structure of supple tannins and fresh savory acidity. The oak is nicely integrated. Still youthful, it has a touch of astringency that needs time to settle down, but it should be excellent. 17.5
